I had no idea what to expect from the book and I'm pleasantly surprised.
Slow burn romance, plenty of twists, enemies to lovers, political intrigue and a forced marriage.
I really enjoyed the storyline about death magic and witches and I could have handled more of those scenes, unlike the politics, scheming and power games of which there is more than enough here.
Sometimes some passages confused me but gradually a few things become clearer.
The beginning, apart from the intro, is rather slow, bigger action only comes towards the end.
The overall world with various nations is really carefully crafted here, but unfortunately the book lacks a map, although I have a feeling that foreign editions have one. The whole pre-election battle for the ruler's seat was quite confusing.
The main heroine didn't annoy me in most parts, I just occasionally felt that she's sometimes too stubborn and unnecessarily wants to deal with things in the heat of the moment, and Mr. badass warrior, who is rumored to be brutal, behaves around the main heroine like a cute retriever puppy and actually it's not really enemies to lovers, because he likes her pretty much right away and she, although seemingly dismissive, is suddenly head over heels in love.
Well, all things considered, when the next part comes out I'll probably read it out of curiosity, thanks to the ending that occurred I'm quite curious what will happen next and also how it will turn out with the main heroine's dark inheritance.
