The author's Cursed Bay entertained me last summer and when I saw another of his books was coming out, I was immediately thrilled.
I'd say we haven't had this here yet. Urban horror that takes us into the dark streets of the city and even darker corners. I have to say I had an incredibly good time and at moments was successfully scared, because the atmosphere here could be cut with a knife.
The urban legend about a witch, a woman with half a face, takes on different dimensions in the moments when you hear shuffling steps and smell a stench that blows out your lungs.
A horror set in the city with a band of homeless people, where you even grow fond of some of them — that was something for me. Although I suspected how it would all turn out, I was still surprised by many things.
❗️shoutout to dog lovers, the scene where the dog appears, better skip it, you can thank me later❗️ the only scene I really could have done without, otherwise I appreciate how incredibly believably it was written.
I basically enjoyed all the other scenes. We get a glimpse into the lives of homeless people, those surviving, where only a fraction can be helped, others don't want help and others are just too lost.
For me, brilliantly realistically described scenes that gave me chills down my spine.
I was worried about how the ghost of Agnes herself would affect me, whether she would be believable to me, and she was, her tragic story wrapped me around her finger and I was basically looking forward to her liberation, though how it all turns out you'll have to read for yourself. I couldn't put it down and even after finishing I still think about it.
