When I started reading the second book in the Black Winter series by Darcy, I had a genuine concern that I wouldn't like it, that I would be just as annoyed and disappointed as with the first one, but it actually surprised me quite a bit.
Yes, it's naive, sort of a creepy fairy tale, where the main duo alternately irritates me to the point I'd smack them and other times entertains me. Their dynamic is sort of unkempt, strange, but bearable.
This installment finally has proper action, it doesn't take place in one location, the duo is on a journey.
There were several great twists, whether during the journey or in the town, and a surprise at the end (which I admittedly expected) but it was nice.
The books should be read in order, not separately, because you would miss the context. The ending is again open, and I must say I'll happily read the next installment, because I'd be curious to see how the journey continues.
So I'm raising my rating for the action. Definitely sooo much better than the first book.
