The sci-fi round we're reading with #klasikomilove is really fun. I've never been very close to sci-fi but I'm rapidly changing my mind.
Another title I finished as part of this round is Wells's The War of the Worlds.

Synopsis:
England at the end of the 19th century. The inhabitants of Earth, blinded by pride in the advancement of their civilization, have no idea that ten short distant flashes somewhere on the planet Mars mean the greatest threat to humanity in its history so far. Ten hollow metal cylinders with uninvited visitors from space gradually land near London and a war for control of the universe begins. The numerical superiority of Earthlings with their cumbersome combat mechanisms proves to be a trivial argument compared to the devastating combat methods of the Martians. But even the Martians are not invulnerable. Will the Earthlings manage to uncover the enemy's weak spot? Will human discipline, organization and traditional moral values triumph over the many times more advanced Martian technology and cold intelligence?

Readably written, timeless, with a brilliantly built atmosphere.
I enjoyed how gripping the book is, the narrative has momentum and in its time it must have been very shocking. It can literally take your breath away and in some passages it literally sent chills down my spine.
