Dark Summer is one of my favorite books, I gave it a rereading after more than twenty years and I'm absolutely satisfied. I didn't want to put the book down and I admit I read it longer than I had to, because I didn't want to say goodbye to its heroes.
A summer story from a small town, where the main characters are a group of kids. A story about a strong friendship that is packed with action. You'll laugh with the main characters, you'll experience sad moments and hope, but you'll also be touched by darkness along with them.
Simmons narrates incredibly captivatingly, he gets under your skin and won't let go until the end. The characters are wonderfully portrayed, you won't find any flat ones here. You'll love them, but you'll also fear with them and for them. And above all, you won't want their summer to end, because in the end you'll miss them very much.
Once at Levné knihy I came across a paperback with a funny, not very appealing cover and I immediately grabbed it. When I got home and found out it was the second volume, I went back the next day and bought the first one.
After those more than twenty years, the story was completely new to me, I remembered almost nothing and therefore I had a really good cry at some parts.
It was great and to those of you who haven't read it, I can warmly recommend it.
