The first short story Don't Look Now pleasantly surprised me right away. It opens this collection of short stories and the choice to place it at the beginning is excellent.
Excellent mysterious atmosphere, at times shivers ran down my spine and most importantly an incredibly excellent and shocking ending.
Rating: 5*/5
The second short story The Apple Tree is sad, the life of two people who lived next to each other and not together. I felt sorry for the main character's wife, she so wanted his closeness, recognition, interest.
A bad conscience and remorse caught up with him and frightened him from a distance.
At times I felt sorry for him and at times I thought, serves you right.
Great atmosphere.
Rating: 5*/5
The third short story The Blue Lenses was again excellent. Such lenses wouldn't sometimes be a bad thing.
The ending is outstanding and overall the plot is original, it slightly reminded me of fables.
The main heroine got on my nerves at times, although I understand that in the situation she found herself in, she couldn't react any other way.
Rating: 5*/5
The Birds is the short story I was looking forward to the most.
Who wouldn't know the film version, which I watched even as a little girl.
Although the short story is different from the film, both are brilliant, both have an unpleasant, terrifying atmosphere.
And I have to say that the rustling of wings and the tapping of tireless little beaks trying to get into the houses now resounds in my head.
Rating: 5*/5
The short story Alibi affected me quite a lot, following the thought processes of the main character caused me rather unpleasant feelings. Watching what and when what he came up with will materialize is truly terrifying.
Again a great story and a great ending.
Rating: 5*/5
The last short story took me all the way to the sea.
The beautiful descriptions of the resort breathed summer holidays onto me.
Don't Walk After Midnight nicely concludes the six short stories.
I enjoyed both the story and the characters, I was very curious about what would come of it and I was not disappointed.
Rating: 5*/5
I dove into Daphne thanks to Olda @zanicenyknihkupec and #klasikomilove
I desperately need more short stories and books, I really like his style and I enjoy it incredibly.
I can recommend this title to everyone, you will get pleasant chills down your spine but you don't have to be afraid of any outright horror. The book is great, well put together.
Overall rating, how else than 5*/5
