Lately I've really been lucky with chillingly suspenseful stories, and The Case of the Kidnapped Girls fits in perfectly.
I had to hold myself back from devouring the book in one sitting, but at the same time I wanted to properly savor the ending.
I really enjoyed the main character, agent Van – a woman with a dark past and a tough childhood, who definitely doesn't fit into the box of classic investigators.
Her partner Harry was also likeable to me, and on top of that, at the end we find out he has a few secrets of his own… and now I desperately need the next part!!
The villain? Original and creepy – he had an unusual disability that I haven't read about anywhere yet, and that really surprised me.
I also liked how the past intertwined with the present. It reminded me a bit of the series Cold Case, and I mean that as a big plus.
I was on the edge of my seat until the very last page. If you like dark thrillers with a well-built atmosphere, don't miss this one.
