Přes víkend mi dělá společnost Toxická láska

Annotation:

Fifteen-year-old Lies wakes up one day with a nagging feeling that something has happened to her mother Jeta. She left home in the night without taking her handbag or phone. Lies knows very well that her mother would never leave them. She also doesn't believe her father's version that her mom is suffering from depression and ran away because she couldn't cope with the divorce. But it's primarily Lies herself who is struggling with that, since she can't stand her father's new partner, the beautiful young Laura.

Lies, who believes she knows her mom best of all, discovers on her computer a trace of a completely unknown side of her mother — her account on a dating site. Based on the name of the man her mother was communicating with, she also finds a file with diary entries about their love affair. Luckily, she downloads the file to her own computer, because by the next day someone has blocked both her mother's phone and computer.

When the family finally contacts the police after two days, Lies decides that the diary could be so compromising for her mom that she'd rather keep quiet about it for now and try to find something out from it on her own.

Will she manage to uncover the identity of the mysterious man on whom her psychologist mother developed such a strange dependence? And will she be able to cope with all the pitfalls her investigation brings? Because nothing is the way it seems at first sight.

Toxic Love is a gripping thriller full of surprising moments. It describes not only problematic family relationships and ubiquitous superficiality, but above all the longing for love and physical closeness, whatever the cost.

Through the eyes of fifteen-year-old Lies, it factually and soberly portrays the feelings of loneliness and threat experienced by an adolescent girl losing the person closest to her, and above all the chaos in which children from divorced families find themselves, longing for an ordinary family life full of love.

The author masterfully maintains and escalates the tension until the very last page and successfully conceals the identity of the real perpetrator. The choice of a young narrator and her uncorrupted view of the world lends the book a raw quality.
