I discovered The Guest House through @marketa_kom_books, who tempted me into reading this book so much that I got it extremely quickly.
At first, I had a slight problem with The Guest House because the behavior of the characters didn't quite sit right with me.
The book is well written, the pages flew by under my hands at incredible speed, but at the same time the actions of the main characters confused me and even annoyed me a bit, and I kept hoping that there would come a point when it would break and the book would surprise me.
And guess how it turned out.. at the moment when I was already telling myself that it would be an average thriller/family drama, it happened.
My jaw dropped one moment after another with surprise and huge excitement. The author prepared two storylines for the reader - the perspectives of two main characters plus going back into the past and to the present. This way, he maintains a perfect dosing of tension and uncovering of the situation, which culminates in several surprising revelations, explanations, and won't let you catch your breath even in the last paragraph.
I applaud, I recommend, go read The Guest House and enjoy that grandiose ending.
