PACIČKA

PACIČKA

I was really looking forward to this book, certainly also because Druhý dech completely blew me away and its ending can still give me goosebumps to this day, it was an unbelievable experience.

The beginning of Pacička entertained me, I was tense about what would happen, I didn't mind the pop culture references and I was honestly looking forward to another great experience.
The gradual introduction to the characters was great and I was already hooked, and then it came, during the scene at the gas station ⛽️ I was thinking how many times I'd already seen this in horror movies, I won't lie, I like these scenes but here unfortunately it didn't work on me as much as it should have, and after the plot takes a turn and we gradually get to other characters, that's when it started to fluctuate strongly for me. Unfortunately, no strong experience emerged for me, well to be honest one actually did emerge but a different one than I expected, I didn't understand why the characters behave illogically, for example I would have loved it if the author had taken my breath away by making me expect them to behave according to a template and then boom they would do the complete opposite, but that didn't happen.
I saw quite a lot of horror references peeking out here, with scenes I love from movies I unfortunately rather rolled my eyes here. For me it unfortunately didn't have the right surprise, I even figured out how it would go before something happened and I was right.

The characters didn't fully win me over – I wasn't worried about them and their behavior sometimes didn't seem entirely believable to me.
And that's exactly what then weakens the tension, which could otherwise work much more.

The only one who won me over right away was the cat, the scene with the youngest sister was really very nice and I also liked the part where we go back to the past.
The motif of the paw itself is interesting to me.

The ending was unfortunately a bit predictable for me, except for the canning jars 🙂
Overall, it's rather a slight disappointment for me – not a bad book, but after the previous experience I expected much more.

❓Have you read it? How did Pacička work for you?
