I love mysterious, spooky and ideally horror short stories, and I was incredibly looking forward to the anthology Osiřelo dítě (The Child Was Orphaned).
I must say I was a bit taken aback at first, my huge expectations were slightly shaken, because the title is Erben-esque and I've loved his ballads since childhood, and simply, it's not that I didn't like the first stories, but I was expecting something different and I started getting confused about whether I'd actually get that in this book.
Yeah, I grumbled but didn't give up, and then it came. That unpleasantly pleasant creepy feeling, as if something settled on the back of your neck and didn't want to let go. Anxiety crept into me and I told myself this was going to be something! And it was. Kousáček by @lukasvavrecka is phenomenal. I won't tell you anything so you're not deprived of this perfect splendor, and if you tell me you weren't scared even a little bit, I won't believe you because this one is a banger.
Another one I'd like to highlight is Sirotek by @katerinasurmanova, where I didn't anticipate at all how nicely it would twist, excellent and dark.
Zelený Jura was a nice folk horror, but it became quite clear to me fairly quickly how the story would unfold.
Pan řídící, an excellent story that managed to move me at the end.
Šest neděl by @kat.sardicka is an amazing piece, I was on tenterhooks and at certain moments I wasn't comfortable at all.
I really liked the story by @klara.smolikova Karmen, which gradually moves into a rather dark plot.
@premyslkrejcik and his Malézmrtvýchvstání was a great, refreshing and original conclusion to the whole anthology.
Those who haven't read it yet, go ahead boldly, the weather is ideal, there's fog in the mornings and it's already getting dark early.
