Neil Gaiman has enchanted me several times in the past, whether in my beloved Neverwhere, in Coraline, in the wonderful Stardust or The Graveyard Book.
So it was with great joy that I dove into a buddy read with Lucinka @hruluca, Olda @zanicenyknihkupec and the others.
The author got me again, an incredibly readable, at times almost poetic book that amazed me, drew me into the story, scared me in some passages and last but not least moved me. The story is original, I really enjoyed the characters and rooted for them.
A fantasy fairy tale that at times verges on terrifying horror gets under your skin and you'll get so engrossed that you won't want the book to end.
I also enjoyed the story for its contrast, where a fairy tale is intertwined with horror, violence and darkness, accompanied by loneliness and fear.
The experience is further enhanced by the beautiful illustrations of Elise Hurst.
