"Once upon a time, in a remote village, there was a creature
called the Giant from the Mist.
He always came at night,
when clouds shrouded the moon
and damp fog licked the houses,
carrying away children who were then
never seen again by anyone"
Medieval Tales and Legends (unknown author)
A city that is falling apart, dying, its inhabitants forced to abandon their homes, the economy declining, and children are once again starting to disappear.
Detroit, which is slowly becoming a ghost town, is shaken by child abductions. A serial killer, nicknamed the Giant from the Mist, strikes again. The police are helpless and desperately search for the perpetrator.
I enjoyed following the storyline of the two investigators. Two unfortunate characters trying not to give up. I found them likeable, and although for many readers the deep dive into their lives was too long, it didn't bother me at all and I was curious about what would happen to them next.
The passages from the perspective of the abducted children create tension and even chills several times.
Another bonus for me is the whole legend about the Giant, which winds through the story like a snake. I really love stories interwoven with various legends and tales.
The ending even brought a few tears to my eyes. I enjoyed it incredibly, for me a book hard to put down. I'm satisfied with the final explanation as well.
After the amazing Refuge, which completely got me, the author didn't disappoint. The Giant is fantastic. I love the author's storytelling skill; the story completely won me over.
I warmly recommend it and I'm incredibly looking forward to the author's next books.
