Just finished Season of Mist. The ending broke me, and I read a certain part with tears in my eyes.
I love stories about a group of kids facing evil, whether by King or Simmons.
Finch was great, he gave me a story woven with a certain nostalgia, surprising with quite brutal parts that alternate with laid-back moments of schoolkids getting up to all sorts of mischief, with new unexpected friendships forming and first platonic loves.
I love stories with urban legends and this one was brilliantly crafted. The story about the poor miner who lost his legs and as a ghost with red clogs haunts the abandoned mine was awesome.
You'll quickly grow fond of the characters, but I'd like to point out that I'm quite surprised at how far the main protagonist was willing to go in "crushing the competition," what he was capable of doing to his "rival" and how he would have, without the problems that eventually arose, calmly walked away. I'm pretty shocked by that. I get childish revenge, but this was strong stuff even for me.
Nevertheless, it's a great book that I'm happy to recommend, I enjoyed the read and I can imagine that sometime in autumn, when it starts to get dark early and fog is falling, I'll read the book again, maybe from a distance, when I open the window I'll hear the clatter of shoes and it's also quite possible that those shoes will be red.
It got under my skin and once you read it, you'll feel the same as I do.
