Once again I got lucky with a book. City in the Fog is a genuine and very well-crafted folk horror, which I love.
The book wrapped me nicely around its pages, I liked the spooky introduction, getting to know the likable main character and the town, cozy at first, but when you look a bit more closely it gradually starts to seem strange.
The people here are backward, they don't have mobile phones, tablets or computers. It seems it doesn't bother them at all and they live well anyway.
I really like horrors in which some cult, sectarianism and the like play a role, here I enjoyed everything to the fullest.
I really enjoyed the characters, whether the headmistress, the kind priest or the good-hearted Milan. I was curious how the author would handle the ending and for me he did it more than excellently. From the second half the story, which gradually digs in its claws, bites down and won't let go. And the main villain, oh, I wouldn't want to meet him even though he was described brilliantly.
More such great folk horrors please❤️
