I know The Pied Piper as a musical and a film. But I read Dyk's novella for the first time. Eh, let's say I somehow avoided required school reading, but I enjoyed and fell in love with this slim little book all the more.

When I recently saw The Pied Piper at Lucinka's @kniznisvetlu, it was immediately clear to me that I had to have it. And yesterday's visit to Olda @zanicenyknihkupec at @kosmas.cz in Perlovka was wonderful, and among other titles I also brought home The Pied Piper.
It is a beautiful poetic story that gets under your skin.
A book that is instructive and offers an authentic atmosphere.
A story about love and desire, about human nature.

If I take into account that this is required school reading, in my opinion the text is comprehensible and the book reads excellently.
There are not many characters, so the reader can easily remember them.
The basis for this book was an Old German legend from the 13th century about a rat-catcher who is invited to a town to exterminate the rats. It seems like a simple story. However, the rats, as filthy rodents, are not the only filth in the town of Hamelin, where the whole story takes place.
In this neoclassicist novella, Dyk focuses on (points out) justice, law, revenge, but also love.
