Copycat, so far the most controversial book of the year, about which I've read both great praise and total disappointment, even labeling it as trash. I was very curious myself how I'd take to it and whether I'd like it.
My personal verdict on this book is that it's average. A few sentences literally made me laugh out loud, like the one where the main character claims that she's seen enough shows on Netflix and from that she knows that as soon as the police come up with some theory, they immediately latch onto it and don't allow any other possibility, or another gem, that anyone who wanted to commit some crime and saw a few episodes of CSI: Las Vegas would know what mistakes to avoid.
The main character and her promiscuity weren't at all likeable to me.
Copycat is a mix of everything that's trending right now. It just seemed waaay overcomplicated to me and unbelievable in some parts.
I was glad I didn't reveal the villain right away, though he was among the four I suspected. Although the book doesn't spare blood, organs and colorful descriptions of the killer's rampages, the book was kind of relaxing for me. It read well and I was curious how it would turn out. I've had more books like this in my hands and I think for me it's not trash. It's a book I can easily switch off with and in a few weeks I won't remember many details.
There are better books - sure, but as a light read with a crime story it passed for me.
On top of that I'm a cover person, even if I didn't have bookstagram and didn't know about it, didn't read reviews, I know the book would appeal to me if I saw it on a shelf and I'd leave the bookstore with it. I haven't fallen for proclaims for a long time, so this declaration on the book wouldn't knock me off my chair at all.
Howgh, I have spoken😄
