The first installment of the new series Black Winter by Darcy is very readable, this time we deal with ghosts but the old mansion is also there.
The atmosphere was nice, winter, a hint of post-apo, likable main characters.
Well, and that's where it ends. The critical section here will be a big one this time.
The potential was great, the beginning was awesome, mystery, an old mansion, monsters. A great chase scene in the forest.
But it was too long for my taste, some chapters were tedious to the point of being boring and unnecessary.
And toward the end it was too much for me. It went off the rails, oh dear.

The monsters, which still held a fairly nice spooky aura (in the forest), turn at the end in the scenes in the house into something almost insect-like, sci-fi-ish, and that no longer worked for me. If it had stayed at zombies it would have been fine but this nooo🙈

Well, we'll see how I like the second installment, but I'm already afraid it will be overdone again.
The cover is great but there will be no recommendation, if you like Darcy, give it a try but for me unfortunately no and not just the ending really disappointed. Boring boring and the ending is a patchwork.
