This was a great affair, a very unusual experience for me. I noticed varied opinions about this book, with cries that this is not a horror. Dear friends, what else would it be but a proper folk horror? And I love those.
The very place where our main character arrives is strange, shrouded in mystery and local tales about disappearing patients, who are later found but let's say not in one piece☺️
Beautiful moments when you feel that something is watching you through the main character. And who is actually telling us all this.
I had an unpleasant feeling many times while reading, when the author puts into the characters thoughts of that era, when women were almost nothing, just mindless creatures good only for satisfying a man or for bearing offspring etc. With many statements I literally felt sick.
Thumbs up for the absolutely disgusting gastro scenes, where those specialties made me queasy while reading and I'll have it before my eyes for a long time.
Characters are excellently portrayed and interesting. I rooted for the main character.
Give the book a chance, it's great.
