My first encounter with Mellick and bizarro fiction in general.
I absolutely had no idea what to expect.
This was a properly psychedelic, family-drama, horror-packed delicacy laced with oppressive feelings, which with its plot, so captivating to me, didn't let itself be put down.
Quicksand House entertained me so much that I read it in one go.
I enjoyed following the fate of the children in the enormous house. Their dangerous journey to find the parents they had never met. The feelings and emotions, and the sadness too.
I understand it can be too much for many readers, especially some scenes, but I liked it. I grew fond of the characters, especially Tick, who wasn't afraid to save his sister even though he knew she wouldn't do the same for him, at least not at the beginning.
I really liked how the characters gradually develop. Mellick has an incredible imagination and can pull the reader into the story so much that the whole time you feel as if you were there with the characters.
And that ending, that completely tore me apart. By the last pages, I could barely see the text through my tears.
Bravo to Mellick and to Carcosa for letting us read this gem.
