This was a treat, a story that took me back in time to the nineties, when we played pogs, ran cassette players and on VHS tapes you could check out the latest available horrors like Event Horizon.
I enjoyed the whole thing and didn't find a dull spot. I had to at least split it into two parts so I wouldn't have it read right away because it was hard to put down. I love stories with a group of kids facing some evil.
The moments with the main villain were great, I just didn't get answers about his past and I'd love to have a prequel served up 🥹 (What do you say, mister author?)
The narration changes thanks to the characters but the main hero was nice even with his darker side and I felt sorry for his friend. Who would have thought what atrocities can take place behind the closed doors of neighbors.
I really liked how the author can portray an oppressive atmosphere and slowly creeping dread, when you know before the victim that something went wrong..
And the use of the abandoned factory space? That was the cherry on top. I had a faint inkling about the ending, the final appearance of the project surprised me 😊 and three cheers, this one worked. Please more horrors like this.
