The beginning drew me lightly into the story and the book was readable. For more than half of the book I didn't know what was driving the killer to his actions, until the second part reveals his story.

As for the first half, I really enjoyed it, we have fairly nice characters here, an investigator with two daughters who is divorced and still feels drawn to an old love. We also learn more than one shocking piece of news, like whether the father of her two teenage daughters is really just one person.

What I didn't enjoy as much was that the old love isn't some nice guy but has quite the criminal past. That kind of proper bad boy whom the main character is still totally crazy about even though she doesn't want to be.

When it came to the words 'nastajlované' and 'mítink', it almost took my eyes out, I had to read it like three times.
And then the chapters before, when the villain plays with his new victim and starts talking🙈 I'm not commenting on what he went through. He had pretty huge trauma, that's true, but his behavior, his speech, it didn't work for me.
I like scary villains who have flair, I don't mind unhinged villains but here it would have been ideal that sometimes less is more. Although he undoubtedly experienced terrible trauma, he was kind of underdeveloped, for me something really was missing, because I wasn't afraid of him nor did I sympathize with him.

● the main team is nice, lovely characters and the investigator is likeable
● considering it's the first part of a series, it's nice and I'm looking forward to the next installment
