Well, this was quite a nerve-wracking ride. An alien invasion and two main characters stuck in a broken-down car on a beach swarming with monsters.
I haven't read many apocalyptic horrors, but here you could cut the atmosphere with a knife. It grabbed me right from the start and I didn't want to put it down thanks to its great pacing.
The characters won my sympathy and I rooted for them to survive until the end. The author works perfectly with details and held my attention the whole time, even though a large part of the book takes place in a relatively small space. He doses out the terrifying scenes brilliantly.
As for the aliens, there were tons of various species and I had an unbelievable amount of fun with them. They were properly devious creatures.
It's probably nothing new and there are plenty of other better post-apo stories out there, but I enjoyed it. The book even managed to bring me to tears a few times, especially one part near the end.
I'm looking forward to more books by this author.
