ČERNÝ KOS

ČERNÝ KOS

If you want to read something about darkness, this book will pull you into it from the very first pages.
A story that shocks, suffocates, rips you to pieces, and after finishing it you'll spend a while putting yourself back together. And at some moment you'll have an acute feeling that you need to wash that layer off yourself. It's extremely powerful, breathtaking.
The author won't let you close your eyes or turn your head away in moments when you'd want to. It will get under your skin.
While reading, the feeling of fear, hopelessness, and dread will not be foreign to you.

I have to say that at some moments I really had a hard time, it's not easy reading at all, there are not only terrifying scenes with animals but also the horrible fates of kidnapped children, the suffocating atmosphere of the regime back then, and helplessness.
I was on edge until the very end, when I kept hoping that at the end of this black tunnel there had to be at least a bit of light. I won't even count how many times the book brought me to tears.
The book was inspired by real events that happened. I know which case it is. A long time ago I came across one film adaptation.

I haven't read many books about child kidnappings, because it's really hard reading for me, but Black Blackbird is brilliantly written. It draws you into the story easily and you'll be on edge until the very end. For me, this is truly an excellent psychological novel, not a thriller, the characters are wonderfully written and believable.
I definitely recommend the book, but I'll just add, it's not easy reading.
