Cursed, unwanted, feared and yet needed. That's what Veloce Visrin became. One of the last witches in a world where using magic is forbidden. She hides among common folk until one day she is attacked by a mysterious assassin, a feared being said to be Carciphona herself. And she is forced to break the rule of not using spells. Veloce thus stands between the choice of letting herself be killed, or being eliminated by her own king for breaking the promise that ensured her relative safety.
The first volume of the Carciphona manga was nice, I like the glimpse into the world, the reason for banning magic, and the main heroine who hasn't had it easy since childhood.
The side characters were likeable and I'm curious about what comes next.
The witch Veloce is quite mouthy and headstrong, she always had to rely on herself, and I enjoyed the dynamic between her and her arch-enemy Carciphona, who is trying to get rid of her but also has her own reasons.
I'm looking forward to the next volume.
