Wow, this book truly surprised me and I must admit, very pleasantly.
Barák is a story from life but also a story about life. The main heroine could easily be a neighbor of any of us.
While reading, I was hit by a real emotional storm, during which I had such an urge to hug the main character. It's the story of an aging mother who, like all mothers really, would move heaven and earth for her daughter. A daughter who is struggling with her own demon - alcohol - and tries to live as best she can.
I enjoyed it, at times the story got under my skin so much and touched me so deeply that it moved me. And I so wanted a huge happy ending, where everyone would live together in the house, and everything would be bathed in sunshine. Although it was clear to me that there wouldn't be a total fireworks display at the end, but this is a story from life and life isn't entirely rosy, the main thing is the promise of hope, and that was there.
I myself grew up in a similar apartment building like the one in the book. The atmosphere completely took me back. It was a house where families lived for years and years, and after the parents, their children moved into the apartments, and so it went on and on, we all knew each other there. That's why I also put a photo of our house in my collage.
And what shall I tell you in conclusion? Read it, it's really well done and it's a shame that the book isn't more visible here.
