The book grabbed me right from the start, when the main character unexpectedly loses her best friend Hanka. I have to say that the idea of suddenly losing my best friend like that, and not even pointing out the coincidence of names, totally floored me.
I love those creepy descriptions of what was happening in the apartment, I literally have it before my eyes, I used to live in an apartment in Smíchov and if I had read it there I would have jumped out of my skin.
Creaking floor, strange noises in the hallway, shuffling footsteps, creaking ceiling planks, door on the chain, occasional lights going out, checking through the peephole to see if there really is no one behind the door, watch out for that creaking floor…
It was great, I enjoyed the plot, I enjoyed the ending which built up nicely. I'm satisfied and I think I couldn't have found a better book for Halloween.
