Desperation is a very readable book for me, one I could hardly put down even though I often didn't feel comfortable with it and got chills down my spine.
An atmosphere you could cut with a knife, an omnipresent oppressive feeling, and an ending that worked well.
As one of the few, I also like the film version, which I've seen several times. I've only read the book once, and I won't claim it's my absolute favorite King novel, but I can recommend it without hesitation.
