Because I didn't pay much attention to the blurb but the title of the book really caught my eye, I almost had no idea what I was getting into.
I had a strange relationship with the main character, sometimes I understood her, sometimes I felt sorry for her, but sometimes I also wanted to box her ears, grab her by the shoulders, shake her and scream at her to finally pull herself together.
These are not easy topics that the author writes about in the book.
There is a mix of serious topics, whether it's anorexia, rape, feelings of inferiority, bullying, longing for love and understanding from parents, family or classmates.
It was fascinating that I had also experienced many of the childhood fears that troubled the main character.
It's precisely in such chapters that one cringes and would most love to hug the little one and tell her that everything will be alright, that she is loved and that she doesn't need to suffer anymore.
The eternal struggle of the main heroine, which she essentially fights against herself, and so often hopelessness, when you're afraid of how this will turn out.
The book will definitely give you a strong experience. It is well written, readable and not ideal for sensitive people.
We also get a situation where the main character ultimately drowns herself in alcohol. Don't expect a happy ending.
At the end I had tears in my eyes and the book left such a bitter aftertaste in me.
Honestly, it's hard for me to rate, the style is fine, the going back to the past, the childhood memories were well written.
I read the book in one sitting, because the story affected me as if you had a splinter in your foot that you'd rather pull out quickly, even though you know it's going to hurt a lot and you'll also be praying that it doesn't break and grow in while being pulled out.
The lack of understanding that the main character experienced, the lack of appreciation but also the many times she herself misinterpreted her parents' behavior, her deep sadness, dealing with situations at school and the eternal desire to fit in.
I think it will stick in my head for a long time to come.
