Wow, after finishing I had to wait x hours before I was able to write down my thoughts and feelings. No book has shaken me like this in a long time.
You could say the book is really reading for the tough, and although I love horror and thrillers, I have to admit that this was such a scary creepy ride that I haven't experienced in a really long time.
Don't be fooled into thinking it's a cheerful fairy-tale retelling of Peter Pan. Because any connection with the word "cheerful" is practically impossible here.
It's very dark, to the point where I felt quite anxious during some scenes. You'll be scared and until you find out everything that happens, you won't want to leave the book.
Our smiling, carefree Peter is actually a seriously deranged, dangerous stalker, murderer and sociopath who loves quite bloody games, and once he brings you to his island, he will never let you go back.
The whole story is about the first of the boys whom Peter chose to be with him forever. But what happens when, after all those long years in Neverland, the boy sees through Peter, and what he sees he doesn't like at all. A pretty brutal cat-and-mouse game begins, and who can win when one of them is so devilishly cunning and has more than one ace up his sleeve.
The story is about love, friendship, longing, possession, hope but also about the emptiness that no one and nothing can fill.
I enjoyed the main characters incredibly. Jamie grew very close to my heart and in a way I even felt sorry for Peter.
